Haiti's seemingly endless road to democracy, and its manifest of casualties
has been extensive. Eventually every traveler navigating its hazardous course
has crashed, turned around, or broken down, however temporarily, and in that
sense, at least, it's been the same road for everybody, including the foreign
and domestic press. The same challenge. The same opportunity. What one might
euphemistically call a learning experience.
It is very hard to find neutrality in
news reports about Haiti. The news media often has no means to do in-depth
coverage. Media in Haiti and in the Diaspora report almost exclusively on Haiti
politic. They are usually not interested in reporting on issues such as justice,
ecology, charity, crime and drugs.
Media in Haiti has been expanding
remarkably in Haiti for the past three decades.
